Lost One

Julia lost her first tooth!  It was hanging by a thread for weeks, long after I thought it defied the laws of physics for it to remain in her mouth anymore.  She did not want anyone to go near it and was not interested in having anyone tell her how to wiggle it to get it out, thank you very much.  You could see the permanent tooth already coming in behind it, creating a temporary double row of teeth like a shark.  Hello, braces someday.

The stubborn little tooth finally popped out in Sunday School when she was dancing and singing to a song.  She proudly pounced on me as soon as I walked in the classroom door to pick her up, showing me the wad of paper towels her tooth was swaddled in.  "I was dancing and--POP!--it just came right out!"  Easy as that.

A Glorified Pokemon Uber Driver

We all know that parents wear many hats--cook, medic, laundry slinger, chaser-awayer of things in the night, and the finder of things in the house, as in "where are my cleats?" and "have you seen my mouth guard?" Lately I would also have to add to the list of my job titles Glorified Pokemon Uber Driver, although a very poorly paid one.  After resisting the Pokemon Go crazy for many months, I finally let the kids load it onto my phone, which I now share with three Pokemon obsessed munchkins who talk about things like weedles and potions.  It is like their own secret language, albeit one that they share with millions of other people with phone floating in front of their faces on this planet.

At this point, the kids and I have our routine of stops around town--the Coke sign, the park, the sculpture near the school.  My errand routes have added new loops to drive by the Pokemon stops for the kids in the backseat to get more Pokeballs, potions, raspberries and incense (to attract more Pokemon, of course.)  On the upside, the game has made the kids more willing to get out of the house and explore the city with me. I used it as lure to get them to go to the sculpture park downtown and to the Vivian Meier exhibit at the Art Center.

See kids?  Art is great!  Here they are inside the Nomad sculpture in the sculpture park.  And look--they are having fun without a phone in their hands.

There's a Beautiful Rabo in the Sci

Julia is coming home from kindergarten with lots of drawings and the beginnings of spelling.  She brings home way more papers than her brothers did in kindergarten, and her drawings use lots of detail and color.  It is fun to see her words emerging on paper.

Orchard Fun

More of this year's orchard outing pictures.  They even picked some apples with me after they got all of the fun stuff out of the way.

Apples of My Eye

It's that time of year again for the annual trip to the apple orchard.  I have this sense that the kids are changing so much right now, and I wonder how many more years they will still love to go with me.  The boys are starting to like hanging out with friends now.  We still do quite a bit as just a family, but they are happy to go to friends' houses or have them come to our house any chance they get. I think the award for most changed this year goes to Julia, who shot up several inches, lost her baby cheeks, started kindergarten and is about to lose her first tooth.  She apparently also now stands in ballet position for photos.

All Grown Up

Here is a picture of Julia starting dance classes this August...

Followed by a photo of Julia starting dance classes last August.  It is incredible how much she had changed in one year. When did those arms and legs get so long?
