I got a short haircut yesterday, and the kids' reactions were all pretty telling of their personality and/or developmental stage right now. I saw Julia first and she said "Mama, you got a haircut!...Ohhh, why didn't you take me with you so I could get my hair cut?" That one is still in the egocentric four year old phase.
Then comes Davey, Mr. Dramatic. "Wow, mama! You got your hair cut! It looks beautiful!" That one is also very in tune with the emotions of others and always trying to make people happy. (Hello, Mr. Middle Child.)
And then comes AJ, my Mr. black-and-white. He is still in the classification stage where boys have short hair and girls have long hair (at least in the elementary schools set.) "Mom, your hair is short. Why did you cut it so short? It looks like a boy!!"
There you have it. Birth order differences and personality differences in a nutshell.
