Joe had to work all weekend, so AJ's Grandma Julie graciously agreed to come at the last minute to help me with the little guy, as well as to give me some encouragement as we try to get AJ moving toward a more regular schedule. Having a child of my own gives me so much appreciation for my mom, who had three children ages 3 and younger when she lived on a farm with challenges like a well that would occasionally run dry. I don't know how she did it with two children, much less three small ones, and she managed to keep her sense of humor intact and have a lot of patience with us. Mom had some good suggestions for making meals and snacks ahead of time on the weekends or at night when he sleeps so that time spent on food prep during the day is minimal. And my mom reiterated great advice that I have heard from other people to enjoy spending time with the baby rather than obsessing with housework. Mom loves music and made up a song about AJ that she sang for him when she was here. We had an idea that she should offer her services to compose custom lullabies about babies that incorporate lyrics about the child, such as references to family members, pets, and the town where the baby lives. If anyone is interested in a custom lullaby for their baby, let me know.
For his part, AJ charmed mom by smiling for her several times. I was sad to see mom go today when she had to leave, but we have another visit planned in two weeks that I am looking forward to.
